What Is a Walk Window?
A walk window is the optimal period during the day when weather conditions align with your personal comfort preferences for walking. Rather than checking temperature, wind, and humidity separately, a walk window combines all weather factors into a single comfort score that tells you exactly when to step outside.
How Walk Window Scores Work
Final Score = Comfort Score × Confidence Score × Availability Score
Comfort Score weighs temperature (60% actual + 40% feels-like), humidity, wind speed, precipitation probability, and air quality against your personal preferences. Each factor has a curve that scores from 0 to 1.
Confidence Score accounts for forecast uncertainty. Near-term forecasts score higher; forecasts days ahead have wider uncertainty ranges.
Availability Score reflects your calendar constraints and preferred walking times.
Score Thresholds
Three Walker Personas
Walk Window adjusts scoring thresholds based on your walking style. Select your persona during onboarding, or switch anytime in settings.

- 8 mph wind start
- 55% humidity start
Dog Walker
- 45–72°F ideal
- 8 mph wind start
- 55% humidity start
Pavement monitoring: safe below 120°F, caution 120–140°F, danger above 140°F
Rucker / Fitness Walker
- 40–78°F ideal
- 12 mph wind start
- 60% humidity start
Higher tolerance for wind and temperature extremes

The App Learns
After each walk, you can rate how the conditions felt. Walk Window uses this feedback to adjust a sensitivity coefficient for each weather factor. Over time, your scores become more personalized — the app learns whether you run warm or cold, whether wind bothers you more than humidity, and adjusts accordingly.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a walk window?+
A walk window is the optimal period during the day when weather conditions align with your personal comfort preferences for walking. Rather than checking temperature, wind, and humidity separately, a walk window combines all weather factors into a single comfort score that tells you exactly when to step outside.
How does Walk Window determine the best time to walk?+
Walk Window uses a three-part formula: Final Score = Comfort Score x Confidence Score x Availability Score. The comfort score weighs temperature (60% actual + 40% feels-like), humidity, wind speed, precipitation probability, and air quality against your personal preferences. The confidence score accounts for forecast uncertainty. The availability score reflects your calendar and time constraints.
Is Walk Window only for dog walkers?+
No. Walk Window supports three distinct walker personas: General Walker, Dog Walker, and Rucker/Fitness Walker. Each persona has different temperature, wind, and humidity preferences. The Dog Walker persona adds pavement temperature monitoring and breed-size aware thresholds.
How accurate is the walk window?+
Walk Window scores are based on Open-Meteo forecast data, which aggregates multiple weather models. Each score includes a confidence indicator — higher confidence for near-term forecasts, lower for days ahead. The app also learns from your walk feedback to improve personalization over time.
